At the June 27 meeting of the Standing Committee on Property and Development Policy, the City of Winnipeg recognized the importance of the civic square to the residents of St. Boniface.

As a result, it passed a motion to launch consultations with the public and community stakeholders. These consultations will include discussions with community groups such as the Société de la francophonie manitobaine, the Ami.e.s du carré civique and the Association des résidents du vieux Saint-Boniface.

In its deliberations, the committee highlighted a crucial point: the old fire station is in a more precarious state than St. Boniface City Hall. The future of the fire station is uncertain, and there is no guarantee that it will be in a condition to be rented or sold.

The city has already initiated two meetings with the named stakeholders, and a third will be held in the near future.

The next steps in this process will include extensive consultation with the community, and the issuance of a request for proposals is anticipated. The committee will then decide whether the city will proceed with the sale or rental of the properties.

We are committed to providing updates following future meetings with the City of Winnipeg.
